This journey I’m embarking on feels incredibly significant. It’s truly inspiring to delve into the possibilities of this raw land and envision the self-sufficient, spiritually connected life I’m striving for.

I can certainly understand the internal struggle between the ease of modern conveniences and the deep satisfaction of creating my own sanctuary. It feels like the decision was ultimately guided by something larger than myself, and finding clarity through my faith has been a beautiful experience.

The thought of living by sunlight and relying on the land’s natural resources requires a good deal of courage and conviction. Letting go of the readily available comforts we’ve all grown accustomed to isn’t a small step. And it’s true, the idea of no running water inside the house might sound daunting to some, but it’s a reality many have embraced, and still do. I’m drawing immense strength and inspiration from the resilience of those in Appalachia and the way my ancestors lived – that connection to the past feels incredibly powerful.

My reasons for choosing this path run deep within me. The desire to draw closer to my faith by trusting in God’s provision, to consciously step away from the constant stimulation of our hyper-connected world – the “Matrix,” as some might call it – and to embrace a simpler, though perhaps more challenging, way of living are all incredibly compelling motivations that resonate within my soul.

It’s undeniable how reliant we’ve become on technology. It feels like ages since I last unfolded a paper map to find my way or had a phone number readily accessible in my memory. Even something as fundamental as mealtimes often involves a quick glance at a screen. My deep desire to disconnect from that constant digital tether and reconnect with a more fundamental and tangible way of living feels like a necessary step for my well-being.

I’m genuinely excited to continue this adventure and share it with you all! I can only imagine the profound sense of peace and accomplishment that will come with living in such close harmony with the natural world and the guiding principles of my faith.
